THANKSGIVING 2020 DURING THE PANDEMIC. HISTORICAL 2020 HURRICANE SEASON. RIP RHEA BERARDINI AND RIP WBCN RADIO PERSONALITY TANK. 2020 STILL SUCKS!

I have to admit, this Thanksgiving in light of what is going on in the world (COVID) was really quite enjoyable. Forced by both New Hampshire and Massachusetts to stay home, that's just what we did. Typically we would have been going to Massachusetts to my sister's home. But that damn COVID had us all staying home this year. And I'll be dammed if it wasn't one of the best Thanksgiving's we've ever had. It really was.

For starters, we got to have Turkey leftovers for three straight days.

That wouldn't have happened if we were at my sister's house. But it did here. It was just the immediate family. My wife Cory, and our three adult children and their *spouses and our three grandchildren. We had a truly wonderful Thanksgiving. In fact Cory and I both agree, a new tradition was born.

As bad as 2020 has been with COVID we have been actually enjoying ourselves in our secluded little world. We wear masks where they are required outside of our home. But nobody had masks on in our home on Thanksgiving. We have been seeing each other since the COVID hit. There was no need to mask up in my house with my family.

Last week I posted a photo of my late father carving the Turkey.

This week it's me in my new role. My sister Donna saw this pic on Social Media and wrote one word "Dad?" Ha ha. Yeah, I've turned into my late father Gus. Which is not a bad role model. Trust me. My dad was a great father, husband, and grandfather. From this day forward, until further notice, we will be spending Thanksgiving at our home with our immediate family. Yes we will travel see family on other Holidays (Christmas Night *barring any more restrictions from the Governors of NH and MA), but we've already started our own Christmas Eve tradition here at our home years ago.

We will just add Thanksgiving to that Holiday list.

And next year when the Vaccines are available, life will be so much more the better for all of us. But for the time being, we are happy. Happy and Healthy.

Cory did an amazing job. She's my true soulmate.

Newlyweds Pete and Noelle recently married in September. Such a beautiful wedding that was too. I'm happy to say, that Nobody got COVID. Nobody. Pictured here with two of our three granddaughters, Brylee and Avery.

Max took a selfie at the beginning of our dinner right before grace.
The immediate family. Sheltering in place and enjoying Thanksgiving.

And thanks to our super talented German Shorthair Pointers "Patch" and his son "Zorro" we also had wild game to our traditional Turkey dinner.

Roast Pheasant and Grouse. It was so good. We have been eating wild game ever since the kids were born. It is a longstanding tradition in our family. And it always will be. It is a true Thanksgiving at our home.

Whatever Max and I harvest, we eat. WE SURF. WE HUNT.

This was a sad version of the traditional MACY'S THANKSGIVING Parade.

There was nobody on the streets watching. No crowds. It was like watching a 2020 COVID NFL game. In fact at one point I said out loud "Why don't they pump in the crowd noise from one of those NFL games? " Right? Why not?

Poor Santa had to wave to imaginary kids lining the streets.

And those elves were all masked up and looked miserable. The more they try and make it seem normal, the more absurd it becomes. It was just weird .

Don't worry kids, next year things will be back to normal (fingers crossed).

Not for nothing, but the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season ends tomorrow November 30th, 2020. And talk about irony, we had 30 storms this year! That my friends is the MOST ever. So yeah COVID sucked, but the surf? Well, the surf was pretty damn good. You have to look for the silver linings in the grey clouds of life. Or as I am fond of looking for, that "Patch Of Blue".

This is historical. Seriously, we've never had this many named storms in one hurricane season before. Here's to a repeat with 2021. And check this out.

The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season just doesn't want to end.

"NEW TRADTIONS AND NEVER ENDING HURRICANES
HEALS ALL WOUNDS!"

This week's Ed's corner is local legend Kevin "Doc' Grondin. Ed took this pic of Doc at the Wall on November 16th, 2008. Truth be told this photo could have very easily passed for last week when I shot Kevin. He is the ultimate Ever Ready Battery. The man has stayed consistently good for decades.

Now for Some Local and National News

The world just got a bit more dangerous this weekend. Iran's top Nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was assassinated two days ago, and the Iranians are not too happy about it. In fact, they are kind of on the war path. The finger pointing is directed at the usual suspects. No surprise here, Israel and the USA are the to blame according to Iran's leaders. The radical right Iranian extremists are protesting around the clock.

"Death To America!" Sounds familiar huh?

I'm sure all the Military and Intelligence folks are being very vigilant with around the clock surveillance.

The vehicle that Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was riding in was riddled with bullets. No chance of survival for the Nuke Master. This of course does not help President -elect Joe Biden who is transitioning into the White House in a couple of months. If I had to guess, I'd say that there's a pretty good chance that Netanyahu and Trump did not discuss any of this with Biden. Which is too bad, because this is exactly something that any incoming president should have been made aware of. But I'm not the least bit surprised by any of this.

President Trump is not exactly going lightly, just as many of us suspected he would. At some point he's gonna have to face the facts. It's over. Do what's right for the country President Trump. Not what you want. Do the right thing. Surprise everyone and go out like a man with dignity and respect for the office that you just held for 4 years. Do the right thing. Be true to the USA.
You were president for 4 years. Just like Biden will be.

Help Make America Great Again by doing the Right Thing.

Start packing your bags. Stop with all the vindictive last minute moves. Go on and pardon a few friends (they all do that), but seriously, LET IT GO. Go write that book. Be nice to the new tenants. Be gracious. Be kind. Be grateful. But be gone.

Speaking of the right thing. This couple below were married for 66 years. Mr and Mrs Anthony Berardini. Parents of Tony Berardini. Tony is a local surfer/photographer/WBCN Alumni/CBS Sports and all around great guy. Tony and Shelly Berardini are a big part of our local surf community. Rhea Berardini passed away a day ago. she was 100 years old. That's an amazing feat. 100 years old.

She is with "The COACH" now in heaven. She is home again.

Can you imagine 1920 to 2020. Talk about living a good long life. She saw it all. WWII, Korea, Vietnam, The JFK assassination, the landing on the Moon, the birth of her sons, the marriages and grandchildren. She saw terrible aftermath of 9-11, but she also saw the good that has happened in our country and the world the last 100 years. The Patriots won 6 super bowls! And yes, she saw COVID. But I'm happy to report that it was not COVID that took her final breath. Rhea simply ran out of gas. She was 100 years old and she was ready to go home again. We should all be so lucky. Rest In Peace Rhea. You've earned your time in heaven.

When it rains, it pours. Poor Tony lost a cherished member of the WBCN family. Paul Sferruzza AKA "TANK" passed away yesterday. Tank pictured above with ChaChi Loprette was a great guy with a great sense of humor. Everyone who knew him loved him. Tank was 67. He was living up here in Dover, NH. Rest in Peace Big man.

Last week I posted a potential cover for my book. Yes I did own a Monkey at one point in my life. This is the only known photo of him. His name was JoJo. I came back from Vietnam in late 1970. I got out of the Marines in January of 1971. When I came home I tried to fit in with the "Hippies." So I bought a Woolly Monkey.

It was a colossal mistake. My book is a series of short true stories about my life. Lord knows I have a million of them. The monkey story is just one of dozens that are in my book. l thought of this title many years ago. I always thought it was an attention grabber. I may change the look of the book cover. This was just to see what you all thought. Send me an email with your thoughts. ralph@adlantic.com Thanks.

7 decades of Ralph Stories. From the absurd to the truly heartwarming. From the terrifying to the "you have got to be kidding me" type of stories. All true. All coming in 2021.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
I used to say that I wouldn't wish my Woolly Monkey Jo Jo on my worse enemy. In hindsight, I would have loved to see JoJo take big monkey bites out of this piece of shit. Damn The Monkey On You Khaliddy!
May The Monkey Bite Your Ass In Hell!

And so my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of *MONKEY CHOW
at Home Depot this week.
*That's what I used to buy for JoJo.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING November 26th, 2020!

I kept a daily BLOG when I surfed everyday during my
CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY. (Click On the Banner below)
Started on July 26, 2010 ENDED July 26, 2011.
A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days.

Yesterday- MY FIRST VHS MOVIE 99 TO 90 ON THE SURF FREE OR DIE LABEL.
(Below) I have dozens of reel to reel 8mm and Super 8mm movies that I've made since the 60's, 70's, and the 80's . Once Cannon came out with the 3 chip Mini DV camera, I started making video surf movies in the 90's. My very first production of one of those was a two tape release called 99 to 90. I started with 1999 and worked my way back to 1990. I showed the movie at The Atlantic Grill in Hampton to a well received crowd. It was the beginning
of a run of movies I made and showed all around the seacoast. Including showing two of them on the beach itself. Those were great days.

All my movies are available on DVD and can be purchased on line.
My web site is still the same. www.surffreeordie.com

October 14th, 2020 TS DELTA hit the NH seacoast with a clean head high swell and relatively warm water. The crew was out in full force. Still reeling from Hurricane Teddy the boys and girls wanted more.
And DELTA provided them with another jolt of saltwater energy.
So while 2020 may have been a terrible year for some people,
the surfers of New England will tell you otherwise.
What's my old mantra? Oh yeah...SURFING HEALS ALL WOUNDS.
Music is by The AB Band. The song is called "Autumn Breeze."
I thought it was appropriate enough.

This is the trailer to TEDDY. Or rather Hurricane TEDDY. We had four days of waves with two of them being significant. September 22nd and 23rd, 2020. Teddy was one of those Hurricanes that lived cup to the hype. It got big. It got hollow. And...it got crowded. Believe it or not, some surfers flew out from California to surf TEDDY. The Full feature Premiere showing will be shown on October 1st, 2020 at 7:00 PM. I'll be showing it on the Blog, the Vimeo page, and Facebook. That's 10-1-20 at 7:00PM EST. Music will be by NERVOUS EATERS, REDDY TEDDY, and The VINNY BAND. The song in the trailer is HOT STEEL and ACID by Nervous Eaters and can be purchased at aceofheartsrecords.com

Three Tropical Storms that gave New England some fun waves. September 6th, 14th, and 15th, 2020. It never got really big, but anytime the waves are head high and the water temps are in the 60's it's worth it. My son Max was celebrating his birthday on the 14th, so it's a little Max heavy. But seeing Kainalu Nichols surf at home again is worth the price of admission alone. Wait, what am I talking about it's free. The music is by Jack Shea check him out of Instagram @iamjackshea and QWILL at qwillmusic.com

TROPICAL STORM KYLE 5 Days Of Waves from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

From August 15th to August 19th, 2020 TS KYLE lit up the New Hampshire seacoast. The Boys and The Girls were there to meet Kyle every hour of every day. Suffice it to say, by Day 5 they were all gassed. But not before I shot the best of the best. It didn't really clean up until Day 4, but not having any real waves for so long, nobody was complaining. I managed to get in the water with my trusty HERO 5 GoPro and shoot for a couple of hours in just my trunks and rash guard. Yes it was that warm. I tried to shoot everyone who was out there. But try as I might, I always end up missing a few. I'm sorry if I missed you. The music is provided by my super talented nephew QWILL. You need to check his site out qwillmusic.com

Little Soft Top Or Christmas In July from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

July 1st and 2nd, 2020. The 157th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg. The actual battle lasted 3 days. July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. But here in Hampton, NH? It was all about surfing at the Wall. Dougie "Fresh" Wright was in town and as always, he times his visits with a fun summer swell. The surfing is all by the local crew. The music is three songs from The VINNY Band LP "OLAS DE SEXO" recorded in 1983 and produced by our dear friend David Robinson. The music isn't exactly contemporary but it works well enough for Surfing. Look for the near decapitation of Cam MacLeod. Crazy. I shot this in 4K so adjust your machines accordingly. Watch at a minimum of 1080

The BOYS & GIRLS Of Summer 6-5-20
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

OK so I shot this all on June 5th, 2020. I started shooting at 8:00AM. There was only ONE person out at this secret spot called The WALL. Think about that. We all just spent two months in a Lockdown when the Governor opened the Beaches on June 1st, 2020. You would think that the first sign of a freaking ripple that people would be all over a waist to chest high glassy morning. But only a handful got it in the morning. People did finally wake up and by midday it was back to the normal crowd scene. It was just the best was from 7-9AM. Look, I'm not telling you this to make you feel bad (okay maybe a little) but you gotta wake up and check the cams people. It's summer! The flat spells are upon us. Anyway, I used The Ataris playing one of my favorite songs ever. Check it out. Live and learn. SURF FREE OR DIE!

OPENING DAY June 1st, 2020 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Finally, the Governor of New Hampshire opened our Beaches and allowed our people the FREEDOM to Surf. Albeit, there wasn't much in the way of Surf, but that didn't stop the Boys and Girls from paddling out at the Wall on North Beach in Hampton, NH. Nobody spread the COVID-19 Virus around, that I could see. It's funny because while we (surfers) were all practicing Social Distancing the Protesters and Rioters were NOT. It's almost as if The Coronavirus disappeared overnight. My friends we are living in strange times. As in very strange times. The music by TL fits perfectly. The BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN!

COVERT-19 TS ARTHUR from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. Another from the COVERT-19 series. This might end up being the last of its kind because on June 1st, 2020 the beaches of New Hampshire will finally be open. The last in the nation to open the beaches. Thank God. This edit is all from Tropical Storm Arthur. This was shot in 4 K so adjust your device accordingly. The music is by the super talented Ty Tabor. Buy his music at amazon.com

MAY DAY from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The 7th video in the COVERT-19 Series. This one's called May Day. Just three surfers Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, and Kenny Linseman all practicing "Social Distancing" while hordes of people crowd the local beach Restaurants and nobody says anything. I don't get it. That's BS in my eyes. Practice Common Sense Not Nonsense. As long as there's surf, I'm going to document it. Music is by The Jelly Jam you can buy their music at amazon.com. Watch in 4K if you have it, otherwise watch in 1080.

MR MAN from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Another from the COVERT-19 series. This one's called MR MAN. It's all from the 27th and 28th of April 2020. It's all in black and white. The featured surfers are: Jesse Gould, Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, Matt Colby, Ryan Jackson, and Brett and Kai Zola. Music is by The Jelly Jam by their music at Amazon.com

NOBODY'S BUSINESS from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

From the COVERT-19 series. This one's called NOBODY'S BUSINESS. Shot in New England on Sunday April 19th, 2020. Surfers: Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, Nick "Pev" Peverada, Lars Hamilton, Brian Taber, and Nate Gillman. ralphspic.com Music by Ty Tabor

COVERT -19 Series GHOST TOWN from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

With the LOCKDOWN in full affect the local surfers have to get creative to find waves. No PARKING means just that. There's NO PARKING at any of the NH beaches. So what does that mean? Well, you can walk, ride a bike, or skateboard to the ocean. The Atlantic Ocean is a big body of water. As long as you avoid the beaches and leave your vehicle at home, the will to survive and surf is strong in New England. The Surfers who appear in the video broke no laws. They just went surfing and practiced Social Distancing. The music is by Jelly Jam. Amazingly talented musicians. Praying for those who are sick, and praying for all the businesses to hang in there. Things will get better. I hope they Kill The Virus soon. Meanwhile, "Surfing Heals All Wounds."
